December 19, 2019. Opelousas, LA–Dredge the Vermilion(DTV) met with St Landry Parish Council Member and Parish Engineer in Opelousas.
Members of the DTV board of directors met with St Landry Parish Council Member Harold Taylor and
Parish Engineer William Jarreau of Morgan Goudeau and Associates at the Morgan Goudeau Engineering
office to discuss the proposed Bayou Courtableau-Bayou Ami floodgate. DTV offered to assist with
drafting a LWI Round 1 Project Pre-App for potential funding by LWI. The gate would benefit all parishes
in the Teche-Vermilion watershed and would provide water quality improvements as well as a critical
flood mitigation resource.

The concept of a gate on the levee between the bayous was proven during Hurricane Barry where Bayou
Courtableau was lowered by nearly 2 feet prior to the arrival of the storm. This action helped save the
area from another flood on the Vermilion River and areas north of Lafayette. Click this link
