November 20, 2019. St. Martinville LA–Dredge the Vermilion (DTV) met with St Martin Parish President Chester Cedars at his office in St. Martinville.
Members of the DTV board of directors met with President Chester Cedars of St. Martin Parish to discuss if he would consider chairing the Acadiana Planning Commission (APC). We suspect the APC will elect a new chair now that 16 parishes will be included in 2020 up from 6 due to the Louisiana Watershed Initiative (LWI) naming the APC as the fiscal agent for LWI District 5 which includes both the Teche-Vermilion and Mermentau watersheds. He said he would and noted he planned to appoint himself to the LWI District 5 steering committee.
As we suspected, this told us he is dead serious about fixing our regional drainage issues. We also told him we were going to submit 2 LWI Round 1 projects – the Bayou Courtableau – Bayou Ami gate and the a project on the two main coulees that drain into the Vermilion River. These are coulees Mine and Ill des Cannes.
Avoyelles parish who is working with us is planning to submit a Round 1 project also.
